Michael Winston began his art career in high school, then replaced his brush and palette with basketballs, volleyballs and jump ropes. A health and physical education instructor at Warrensville Heights (OH) Middle School for 31 years, Winston began drawing again in 2000 when he found paper and marker during a study hall and started to draw to set a good example for his students.Winston is among the very few marker artists in the country, producing what the artist calls “floral dreamscapes” using nothing but magic markers. His surrealistic style, and artworks’ rhythm and movement invite and excite the imagination.Winston’s artwork has been displayed in art shows, galleries, hospitals and private businesses, and on the program guides of the Beachwood Festival of Arts and the St. John’s Festival of Arts. His creation, “From Beginning to End,” graces the cover of this year’s Art + Music Festival program.
