Michael is a master of the magic marker medium. His three dimensional use of color has made his work the topic of conversation wherever it has been shown. He works in a surrealistic style and refers to his pieces as “floral dreamscapes”. His dreamscapes’ rhythm and movement invite and excite one’s imagination.

Michael is a retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He served 22 years before he retired in 1994. He was a member of Port Security Unit 302, which was mobilized for Operation Desert Storm in 1990.

William Michael Winston Biography

Michael Winston was born in Deepwater, West Virginia in 1950 and moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1953. He attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from John Adams High School in 1969.  Michael attended Cleveland State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1974. He has been a health and physical education instructor at Warrensville Heights Middle School for over 36 years.

In the fall of 2000 Michael started to draw again. He works exclusively with magic markers. He is among the few marker artists in the country who create works using nothing but magic markers. Michael is getting good reviews from the art public on his unusual style and medium. His art has been displayed in art shows, gallery shows, hospitals and private businesses around Northeast Ohio.

In 2003 his art was displayed on the program guides of the Beachwood Festival of Arts and the St. John’s Festival of Arts. His work has also been on the cover of Sunshine Artist Magazine, a national artist publication.  In January 2002 and May 2003 his work was featured on Cleveland’s local television program, Fox 8 in the Morning. He has been an award winner in numerous Northeast Ohio art shows and competitions. Michael’s artistic style and medium have been discussed and reviewed in The Akron Beacon Journal, The Youngstown Vindicator, The Twinsburg Sun and The Solon Sun Herald.
