“Spectrum in Markers,” a collection of the works of award-winning magic marker artist Michael Winston, will be onMarker Magic at laurel lake display at The Gallery of Laurel Lake, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson from April 1 through 30. Admission is free and open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Winston, of Twinsburg, is one of a select few artists who create complete art compositions using magic markers.

He uses Prismacolor brand permanent artist markers to achieve his brilliant colors and three dimensional effects.

The artist’s unusual medium and style, which he calls “floral dreamscapes,” has caught the public imagination.

His art has been displayed in art shows, gallery shows, hospitals and private businesses around Northeast Ohio. In 2003, his art was displayed on the program guides of the Beachwood Festival of Arts and the St. John’s Festival of Arts.

His work has also been on the cover of Sunshine Artist Magazine, a national artist publication, and has been on Cleveland’s local television program, Fox 8 in the Morning.

The artist has taught for 31 years at Warrensville Heights Middle School.

The Gallery at Laurel Lake offers free exhibit space to professional and amateur local artists and photographers of all ages and backgrounds each month, as a public service to support the arts in Northeast Ohio.

Residents encouraged
to participate in survey

The Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners invite residents throughout the watershed to participate in a survey to help assess how common household activities impact the quality of water.

Survey results will help develop water quality educational materials and will help determine appropriate vehicles to deliver those messages. The surveys will assist the TCWP in gauging the success of educational programs.

Residents can access the survey from hard copies or an on-line version. Requests to have a hard copy of the survey mailed can be made to Harry Stark at 216-201-2001 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              216-201-2001      end_of_the_skype_highlighting ext. 1205. Completed surveys can be submitted to: Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners, P.O. Box 444, Twinsburg 44087.

Residents also can access the survey on-line through www.tinkerscreekwatershed.org. Click on the link entitled “Environmental Awareness Survey” found on the TCWP home page.

Be assured measures have been put in place to ensure the confidentiality and anonymity of answers.

The deadline to submit a survey or complete one on-line is April 15. However, people are encouraged to fill out the survey at their earliest convenience.

It is also requested that only one survey per household be completed and that only those who are at least 18 years old and a head of the household complete the survey.

Results of the survey will be made public shortly after the deadline has passed. To learn more about the TCWP through membership or volunteering, visit the Web site at www.tinkerscreekwatershed.org or contact them at 216-201-2001     ext. 1224.

Twinsburg Artist Leaves His Mark

Artist Michael Winston and library director Karen Tschudy pose with one of Winston’s works.    If you look closely – extremely closely – at some of the paintings hanging in the library, you’ll see something strange. Actually, it’s what you won’t see that’s unusual.
